Difference between LAN and WAN
LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network) are two types of networks and the following differences between them:
Scope and Coverage:
LAN:
It is an option that operates in a specific locality and is often used in a school, a single block of a building or an office block. This can be owned and all its aspects are managed, operated, run by one body, organization or an individual, or by means of it.
WAN:
Is useful to provide a wide coverage so as to be able to move from, say from city to city, from nation to another or even continent to another. That is why WANs are normallybuilt from some linked LANs or other kinds of networks For this reason, WANs are typically developed from a few connected LANs or other sorts ofnetworks.
Ownership and Control:
LAN:
That is the lower ranking officers or employees of one organization in so far as power or management is concerned.
WAN:
The following always take place in and between many organizations and it is usually arranged by different service givers. But it can be owned solely by one organization or institution How ever it is not like enclosed in its control.
Transmission Speed and Latency:
LAN:
Often it has a higher data transfer rate of about a Thousand Mbps and above and the associated latency is low due to the physical cable connection joining the devices like fibre optic EtherNet/Wi-Fi.
WAN:
It has lesser capability to transfer the data as compared with LANs, and generally, the response to the documented requests takes longer time because the networks that are linked are quite far.
Connectivity:
LAN:
Holders this flow between the gadgets in the same logical segment as they move seamlessly within this segment without any influence from other segments or gadgets and acts as a way for gadgets to communicate with other gadgets and any form of distortion.
WAN:
It is quite within the realms of possibility to establish connection between two devices that may be several meters away from each, through a chain of other routers and through the public channels with leased lines or satellites.
